DES MOINES, Iowa — The driver of a vehicle was able to elude law enforcement across multiple metro cities Friday morning after a chase began in Clive.
The incident began around 10:51 a.m. after the Clive Police Department received a report of a woman trying to sell what was believed to be stolen property at a business near NW 100th St. and Swanson Blvd., said Sgt. Trent Weiler of CPD. Police tried to make contact, but the woman took off in a white Buick Encore.
Sgt. Weiler said at the beginning of the chase, the woman was driving 90 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone. The chase went into West Des Moines and onto I-235, off the interstate, and also on to University Avenue in Des Moines. At times, the vehicle was going to the wrong way on University Avenue.
Law enforcement lost sight of the vehicle around 13th St. and Chautauqua Pkwy. About 15 minutes after calling off the chase, Sgt. Weiler said officers with the Des Moines Police Department located the vehicle involved, abandoned, in the 3900 block of Lawnwoods Drive.
No damage from the chase was reported to Clive Police.
Sgt. Weiler said Police Chief Mark Rehberg plans to release more information about the pursuit later Friday.
