DES MOINES, Iowa — Socorro Martinez is the new Executive Director of the Latina Leadership Initiative. She shared her passion with investing in Latinas in Central Iowa, and how her experience as a first-generation college student has inspired her to give back as a mentor in this growing program.

Socorro has a strong background in program development, event coordination and organizational leadership. In her previous role, she launched an interpretation and translation department, addressing a critical community need and building a foundation for lasting impact. She has also led and coordinated community-based events, showcasing her ability to plan strategically, engage diverse teams and bring people together with purpose.

For Socorro, this work as the Executive Director for the Latina Leadership Initiative is deeply personal. As a Latina woman, she has witnessed the power of representation, mentorship and opportunity in shaping lives and futures. She is passionate about empowering women to embrace their voice, advocate for their communities and inspire younger generations.
