More than 110 dogs removed from Plymouth County home

PLYMOUTH COUNTY, Iowa — The Animal Rescue League of Iowa assisted in removing more than 110 dogs from a Plymouth County home on Tuesday.

The ARL of Iowa received an urgent call from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office claiming more than 100 dogs were living in toxic conditions at a home. The ARL team arrived on scene and removed 111 dogs and puppies from the property.

The ARL of Iowa says a majority of the dogs in the home were living in areas covered in urine and feces. Another 40 dogs were reportedly shut in a small shed and living in similar conditions. Tests taken on scene revealed the ammonia levels were dangerously high, the ARL says.

The ARL of Iowa is currently at capacity, but has set up emergency overflow housing for the recovered animals. According to the ARL, most of the dogs will need grooming to remove severe mats, dental surgeries, spay/neuter surgeries and additional medical care.

The Siouxland Humane Society, which is caring for 12 of the dogs, and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the rescue.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into this incident.
