Police recover shell casings after fight and gunfire in Court Avenue District

DES MOINES, Iowa — Police recovered more than a dozen shell casings after being called to investigate a fight and shots fired in Des Moines’ Court Avenue District early Friday morning.

Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer of the Des Moines Police Department, said officers were called to the 100 block of 3rd Street just after 2:00 a.m. after receiving several calls about a large fight and gunfire.

Officers investigating the scene noted damage to two parked vehicles, and shell casings were recovered at the scene.

No injuries were reported from the incident, Sgt. Parizek said.

Police are examining surveillance video, as well as other evidence, as part of the ongoing investigation.

More information is expected to be released by DMPD as it becomes available.
