WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — West Des Moines Police are investigating a shooting in an apartment building in West Des Moines early Thursday morning.
At 3:14 a.m., police received a call about a shooting at 8602 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. The residential area is known as the Maple Grove Villas. It is located just northwest of the Jordan Creek Mall.
Police found two adults in apartment 808, and one of them had a gunshot wound.
That individual was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police say the individual has a non-life-threatening injury.
Sergeant Dan Wade of the West Des Moines Police Department said officers have identified all individuals involved in the incident and are having conversations to find out what happened.
One neighbor, Anissa Banks, said she was shocked to hear about the shooting. She said she recently moved back to the community because it’s a quiet area.
“It shocked me because I live right across the street and I didn’t hear anything this morning,” she said. “And this never happened before.”
Wade said the investigation is ongoing and police will remain on scene throughout the day. However, there is no threat to the community.
