KNOXVILLE, Iowa — A man who was shot and killed by a Knoxville Police Department officer has been identified.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on the night of August 21 the Knoxville Police Department responded to a reported domestic disturbance in the 300 block of Roche Street. According to the Knoxville PD, when officers arrived at the scene, they found a 47-year-old man who was allegedly assaulting a woman.
The Knoxville PD said that during the incident, an officer fired his weapon, striking the man. The man was transported to a Des Moines hospital where he later died. On Tuesday, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation identified the man as Knoxville resident Steven Funk.
The woman who police say was assaulted by Funk was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was released.
According to the Iowa DCI, the officers involved in the shooting are on critical incident leave. The names of those involved have not been released.
The Iowa DCI is continuing the investigation into the shooting.
