Car show hosts school supply drive at Pleasant Hill Diner

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Pleasant Hill Diner alongside Rollin’ Big & Loud Events and Timeless Riders hosted a brand-new event to gather school supplies ahead of the school year.

Registration for the 1st Annual School Supply Car Show was a backpack filled with supplies like notebooks, folders, pencils, and glue sticks, or $25 to be used for supplies.

“It’s dedicated towards bringing donations for the kids that go to the high schools, the elementary schools that unfortunately can’t get all the projects and products that they need. So we’re doing a car show to help raise more products and stuff,” said Scott Rouse, the Owner of the Pleasant Hill Diner.

Rouse said the car show is a way to give back to the community.

“The four of us were just sitting there one day and thought, well, we always do a free car show every Thursday anyway. What’s something we can do to give back to the community, because we already do so many things. But what can we do at the diner to also give back to the community?” Rouse said.

Mike Wheeler, a regular attendee of car shows, said that he saw a lot of new faces come to show support for the event.

“There’s a lot of people that that don’t normally come out to the car shows that are here, which is nice. You know, it gets people out of their shells a little bit. It’s a good cause,” Wheeler said.

Rouse plans to hold the event again next year.
