ALBIA, Iowa — Officials have released the name of a woman whose remains were found in the debris of a historic Albia building destroyed by fire in July.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday it had been notified by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office that the remains were those of Kelly Rea Cummings, 61. The initial autopsy determined she had died of natural causes before the fire started.
Cummings was a tenant of the R.O. Cramer building at 14 Washington Avenue E on the town square. The building caught fire on July 14th and was destroyed in the blaze. It had housed apartments on the upper level and businesses on the lower level.
The State Fire Marshall’s Office has not been able to determine what started the fire.
The MCSO said it is believed that the fire and Cummings’ death are unrelated.
