DES MOINES, Iowa — As predicted, heavy rain fell during the early morning hours. Areas north of Interstate 80 saw the highest totals. We did have a few storm reports and severe thunderstorm warnings in southwest Iowa.

Wendy Frank, from Lake View, Iowa, sent these shots in on Sunday. Weak rotation due to a low in the atmosphere is allowing some of our little cells to form funnels on Sunday. These rarely make it to the surface in these situations, but are being monitored.

Scattered storm chances will die down this evening, then fire back up on Monday. Your weather timeline steps you through it.

By Monday afternoon, we’ll see rain chances increase in areas south of Highway 30. These chances will linger into the evening.

We’ll see another small storm chance late Tuesday afternoon and evening as a boundary advances into Iowa. In addition, more smoke from the Canadian fires will move into northern Iowa on Monday. This may affect air quality, as shown below.

We’ll dry out on Wednesday and Thursday. Slight storm chances return Friday and Sunday. Highs for the next six days are above, and your WHO 13 7-day forecasts are below. Extended outlooks keep us warm through most of the month.
