One-on-one with Nathan Sage, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, Iowa — There are three Iowa Democrats in the race to win the party’s nomination for Republican Senator Joni Ernst’s seat.

Nathan Sage was at the Iowa State Fair at the Iowa Democratic Party booth talking with Iowans about what issues matter to them. Sage also communicated the issues he deems as priorities and what he would push for if he was elected.

You can view the full interview with Sage and WHO 13’s Zach Fisher in the video above.

Sage is the only candidate on the Iowa Democrat side that is not a state-elected official. State Representative J.D. Scholten (D) and State Senator Zach Wahls (D) are both also vying for the seat. When asked about how he views the primary competition, he feels that his message will resonate the most with voters.

“Well, I think, you know, when you look at it like the other candidates in this race are qualified, all great candidates. But I’m not that; I am not your your normal politician. I am rough around the edges. I am not going to give you a one liners. I’m not going to talk about political rhetoric. At the end of the day, I think we’re past that. I think we’re at a stage in this world, a stage in this state, where we need somebody that is actually going to call it how I see it. Be blunt about it, be honest and truthful with a lot of people and talk about issues that only I can talk about. I’m the working class candidate. I’m the guy that grew up in the trailer park,” said Sage, in part.
