DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Fire Department says an accidental ignition led to a house fire in Des Moines’ southside.
According to DMFD, crews were called to the 2100 block of East Caulder Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Sunday on reports of a house fire with heavy flames and smoke.
Crews arrived on the scene and found a duplex with one garage on fire and the flames spreading to the rest of the building. Crews began efforts to contain and knock down the flames.
Crews were able to extinguish the flames within 30 minutes of arrival. DMPD says there is significant damage to the roof and attic of the home. No injuries have been reported.
DMFD was told by the family that the fire was likely caused by an accidental ignition. The family says they had returned inside after spending time outside, when they were later alerted to the flames and called authorities.
