DES MOINES, Iowa — Police in Ames have made an arrest in a string of vehicle burglaries.
Kamren Schmidt, 18 of Ames, has been arrested and charged with Theft 2nd Degree, four counts of Burglary 3rd Degree-Motor Vehicle, Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree-Vehicle, and Theft 5th Degree. The Ames Police Department said the arrest stemmed from an investigation of vehicle burglaries over the past several weeks, primarily in the western part of Ames.
Schmidt is being held in the Story County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 2nd.

APD reminds people to lock their vehicles and not leave anything valuable in them. Police also said you should not store firearms inside your vehicle.
