DES MOINES, Iowa — Letter carriers with the U.S. Postal Service gathered in Windsor Heights Monday morning to speak out against President Donald Trump’s proposed plan to privatize the postal service.

They say the plan would increase postal rates, threaten jobs, and reduce service to some areas.

“And I want to make one thing very clear: this is not about politics. People love the postal service, and regardless of how they voted, they did not vote for this. People consistently rank us as one of the most trusted government agencies. Why is that? Because people know we deliver and get the job done,” said Stephanie Stewart, with the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Monday’s protest was part of rallies nationwide.
