DES MOINES, Iowa — Wednesday evening brought severe storms that skirted around the Des Moines metro. The worst of the storms brought hail to western Iowa and north central Iowa through late Wednesday night. Numerous hail reports came in. You can see some of the pictures of the hail here.

Heavy rain also fell in these areas. Some estimates went over 1″ of rain, in particular between Parkersburg and Waterloo.

Here are some of the highest overnight totals in Central Iowa:

More rain will build in across western and southwest Iowa Thursday morning. We’ll see spotty showers through the day with more widespread, steadier rain and thunderstorms into the evening. These storms could impact the Des Moines metro and Ames between 6 and 9 PM. The severe risk is low.

Rainfall amounts will be sporadic, depending on whether your area gets caught under a thunderstorm. We could see some spotty amounts over 1″ in some communities through Friday morning.
