Governor Reynolds not seeking reelection

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has announced she will not run for reelection in 2026.

The announcement came Friday morning in a video posted to Gov. Reynold’s campaign social media accounts.

Reynolds, a Republican, previously served as Lt. Governor and took over the Governor’s office in 2017 after Terry Branstad stepped down to become the U.S. Ambassador to China. She won reelection to the office in both 2018 and 2022.

Reynolds served as Clarke County treasurer for four terms after being elected in 1994. She served in the Iowa Senate from 2009 to 2011 prior to becoming Lt. Governor.
