Community plans benefit for injured Webster City lineman

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa — The Webster City community is planning a benefit to help a city lineman who was seriously injured after he came in contact with a live wire.

Since the accident, the community has shown an outpouring of support for the lineman, identified as Bryan Dayton. According to a flier posted to social media, Dayton suffered severe burns and was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for treatment.

GoFundMe has also been created to benefit Dayton and his family with a goal of raising $50,000. As of Wednesday evening, over $29,000 had been raised.

Friends of the Dayton Family are organizing a benefit for the Dayton Family on Facebook.

The benefit is set to take place July 26th, so Dayton has time to recover and attend. The benefit will feature a fun run and a live auction.

Erica Schmauss, a friend of the Dayton family and organizer of the benefit, said that items for the auction have already been donated.

“We’ve had a crazy amount of things donated already. A couple of Harleys are in the works being donated and auctioned off. Just the support has been amazing.”
