DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Events Center filled with thousands of people getting a glimpse of the latest in deer hunting during the Iowa Deer Classic 2025.

The annual convention was full of the latest archery equipment. Visitors could also see other hunting gear, clothing, accessories, blinds, tree stands, and more. Hunters could get their deer antlers officially measured, and archers could test out their bow at the shooting range.

The Deer Classic helps gets young bucks into the game through seminars and activities that educate kids about hunter safety, courtesy, and more.

Mark Wagner is the manager of Archery Field & Sports and says the Deer Classic is a tradition that keeps him connected with the hunting community.

“My dad started the business, actually back in 1984. We’ve been coming to the Deer Classic pretty much ever since it started. And so, we’ve been here a lot of years,” said Wagner. “You know, it’s one of those things for us that has become more of a tradition. Being able to see different faces, tell different stories, and just kind of get out there with the public.”

Mark Allen came to the classic to showcase his company The Moose Fireplace LLC and display his recent patent which combines cooking, tailgating, camping and a fireplace all in one.

“I was cooking at the grill, and then I would go see the family down by the fire, and then I would have to go back to the grill, and then I’d have to go back to the fire to see everyone and I thought, well, why can’t we just do this all at once,” said Allen.

“You cook, you talk, you enjoy family, you enjoy friends, and the food that we prepared so far has been fantastic,” said Allen.

With the company being just two months old, Allen was excited to be a part of the hunting tradition.

“The people have been sensational, the conversations we’ve had have just been great. Everyone seems to be having a wonderful time and so many wonderful products and so many great people here.”

The Iowa Deer Classic will continue at the Iowa Events Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 9.
