Several departments battle Indianola structure fire during blizzard

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Several fire departments battled a structure fire in Indianola Wednesday in the midst of a blizzard.

At around 4:39 a.m., during the thick of a blizzard that battered the state, the Indianola Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Harvest Innovations in the 1200 block of North 14th Street. According to the fire department, the caller reported the fire had started in an exhaust stack.

When firefighters arrived at the scene they immediately began battling the blaze, but challenging weather conditions like the extreme wind and freezing temperatures resulted in additional resources being called in. The Milo Fire Department and Carlisle Fire Department responded to the scene. The three departments were able to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
