Webster City High School student dies in Friday morning crash

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa — The Webster City Community School District announced that one of their students died in a crash Friday morning.

According to the release posted on Facebook, the high school student died in a crash while on the way to school. The student’s name has not been released.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, troopers responded to a passenger vehicle vs. tractor crash at around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of 203rd Street and N White Fox Road, just north of Webster City. A crash report states that a 16-year-old was driving a John Deere tractor southbound on N White Fox Road when the tractor was rear ended by a vehicle. The tractor crashed into the ditch and rolled. The 16-year-old died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was injured and transported to a hospital.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WHO 13 that the 16-year-old who died in that crash was the Webster City High School student.

Superintendent Matt Berninghaus said in the press release that counselors will be available to assist students who may be struggling to process the news.

“I ask that we all support one another as we grieve together as a school community,” Berninghaus said in the release. “Please join me in keeping the student’s family and friends in our thoughts.”

No additional information has been released.
