BOONE COUNTY, Iowa — Boone County Search & Rescue, in coordination with the Boone County Emergency Management and the Boone County Sheriff’s office, has organized a search for a man who’s been missing since 2016 for this spring.
In October 2016 then 23-year-old Jesse Leopold went missing sometime after he left work at a meat processing plant in Jewell. A few days after his disappearance Leopold’s pickup truck was found at Ledges State Park with the keys still in the ignition. Over eight years after his disappearance, Leopold still hasn’t been found.
Boone County Search & Rescue announced on Thursday that a search has been scheduled for March 22. This search will focus on roughly 23 acres of grassland at the end of the Peony Lane. According to Boone County Search & Rescue, this area was chosen for further examination based on previous searches and environmental conditions.
A similar volunteer search at Ledges State Park was also held in the fall of 2023.
The search will begin at 9 a.m. and community volunteers are wanted to assist in the search effort. More information about how to get involved will be released at a later time on the Boone County Search & Rescue Facebook page.
