DES MOINES, Iowa — Hoover High School has announced that the high school football program is cut, with students being deferred to Roosevelt.
On Thursday, Des Moines Public Schools confirmed that Hoover High School would not have a standalone football team in the upcoming school year.
Principal Qynne Kelly emailed parents saying a lack of interest in students lead to this decision. According to DMPS, student’s interests are shifting to other sports, and the soccer program is growing.
Students at Hoover High School who are still interested in playing football will play with the Roosevelt team.
This is not the first time Hoover High School football has had low participation resulting in a closure, in January 2022 they struggled with participation and had no head coach.
