SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — One person was injured when an arrest escalated to an officer-involved shooting Saturday morning.
A press release from the Sioux City Police Department said officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near 18th and Grandview Boulevard at around 3:38 a.m. During the stop officers learned the occupant of the vehicle was wanted for felony criminal warrants, as said in the release.
Officials said as officers attempted to take the wanted individual into custody and the suspect resisted arrest, leading to an officer discharging their firearm. The release added officers immediately initiated lifesaving measures to care for the injured suspect, who was transported to the local hospital for treatment. The suspect’s condition is not being released at this time.
The Sioux City Police Department said they contacted the Iowa DCI to investigate the incident, and the Iowa State Patrol also assisted in the investigation. Officials said per department policy the officers involved were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
