IOWA CITY, Iowa — An Iowa City fire truck struck and killed a pedestrian while leaving a medical call on Sunday morning.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, at approximately 7:13 a.m. a fire truck was leaving a medical call in the 1000 block of South Scott Boulevard when it struck a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, 99-year-old Evelyn Bothmer, was declared dead at the scene.

Following the incident, Iowa City Public safety released a statement reading

The Iowa City Fire Department and City of Iowa City are devastated by this incident and we share our deepest condolences with the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased, as well as the staff at Legacy Senior Living. We are fully cooperating with the Iowa State Patrol in their investigation.
