DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol stopped a driver on Super Bowl Sunday for going 115 mph, just one of the hundreds of stops officers made that day.

In a post on X, The Iowa State Patrol says a trooper made the stop on Highway 5 near Fleur Drive. The post says the driver was traveling a 115 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Authorities say the driver was “upset about the Chief’s loss” and had been pulled over earlier on the same day.

As part of the Combines Accident reduction Effort (CARE) Iowa State Patrol had forces out on Super Bowl Sunday making sure the roads were safe.

In a post on X, the Iowa State Patrol says starting at 12 a.m. Sunday and going till midnight, 804 traffic stops and 503 CMVU stops were initiated.

484 drivers were cited for speeding, 31 cited for seatbelts, 8 cited for impaired driving, and 4 were cited for distracted driving. Officers responded to 3 personal injury crashes and assisted 21 drivers.
