DES MOINES, Iowa – Some locations in central Iowa picked up double digit snow totals, and more snow could be on the way heading into this weekend.
Melcher-Dallas and Grand River saw around ten inches of snowfall. Many locations southeast of the metro recorded over eight inches. Here’s a complete list of snow totals across central Iowa:

Wednesday’s 24 hour snow total in Des Moines brought more snow than the metro had seen all year long so far! We’re still well below normal for snowfall this season, with a 14.5″ snow deficit. Before this winter storm, Des Moines hadn’t even picked up five inches this season.
More snow chances are ahead heading into the weekend. Thursday will be dry but cold with highs in the low teens and wind chills below zero. A quick moving system arrives Friday, which could drop some briefly heavy snow during the afternoon.
This system will be a quick-mover, but snowfall rates could be high. As a result, this system could drop 1-3″ of snow across the state.
Another weather system will arrive Saturday, which has the potential to drop another few inches of snow.
These weather systems won’t be the end of our snow chances–there are more heading into next week. Bitterly cold air also settles in for most of next week, causing highs to drop to the single digits and overnight lows below zero.
