IOWA — Temperatures have dropped through the overnight as a colder air mass has settled in.

Tuesday morning’s temperatures started 30 degrees colder than Monday morning’s.

This cold is developing ahead of an approaching weather system that will bring moisture in from the south. Temperatures will be warm enough for it to be rain high in our atmosphere, but as it hits colder air here at the surface freezing drizzle and freezing rain could be an issue Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Ice accrual looks to be minimal with some higher amounts in eastern Iowa.

We are watching a second system for the weekend that will have colder air throughout the atmosphere and could lead to more scattered snow showers for Saturday.

The chance of snow this weekend could help us add some snow to our seasonal total. We are 17″ behind average.
