DES MOINES, Iowa — A suspect was shot by Des Moines Police officers during a warrant investigation in the Highland Park neighborhood on Friday.

According to the Des Moines Police Department, at around 2:44 p.m. officers investigated a report of a person with felony warrants being seen at a home in the 1300 block of East Tiffin Avenue.

When officers arrived at the residence the suspect, a 36-year-old male, ran inside of the home, police said. Officers secured the scene and helped one other occupant exit the home before searching for the suspect.

According to police, at around 3:38 p.m. the suspect told officers that he was armed with a gun and seconds later two officers fired their weapons. The suspect was shot and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect’s condition has not been released. No officers were injured.

DMPD has blocked off East Tiffin Avenue from East 14th Street and York Street while the investigation continues.

The investigation into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing. No additional information has been released.
