DES MOINES, Iowa — A new law went into effect last week that will raise the price of applying for certain vehicle titles, registrations, and security notations from $20 to $30.
Debbie Freeman, a Compliance Officer with the Iowa Department of Transportation, said the law will also change which counties Iowans can register their vehicles in.
“Since this legislation change has passed, they now can get certain title and registration products at any county,” Freeman said.
Freeman said that larger counties can have a backlog of title and registration applications to process which leads to a wait for car dealerships and Iowans when they get a new vehicle.
“It benefits not only customers, but it also benefits the dealerships in Iowa because they process their transactions on behalf of the customer, and they do that through an electronic titling system. Most of them use the electronic titling system, and so they can also get their transactions done on behalf of the customer a lot quicker by going to any county,” Freeman said.
