DES MOINES, Iowa — An investigation is underway after a dog was found tied up in a trash bag in Des Moines on Tuesday.
According to the Des Moines Police Department, at around 4:30 p.m. an emaciated male bulldog was delivered to the City of Des Moines Animal Services Facility. Police said the dog was found alongside the SE 14th Street railroad viaduct.
The person who found the dog told police that the dog’s body was inside a plastic trash bag secured closed with tape and his head was outside of the bag, DMPD said. The person also told officers that the reason he stopped was because he saw the bag was moving.

According to police, the dog weighed slightly over 23 lbs. when he was rescued. The dog is now in the care of veterinary staff.
