WOODWARD, Iowa — The water is back on after it was turned off overnight and most of the morning Wednesday.
The problem was due to a contractor hooking water service to a new house under construction to the water main. Some how, the entire city’s water had to be turned off. The contractor was at work in 20 degree weather to correct the problem.
“Full water service has been restored to the city,” said City Clerk Amy Orr in an email. “A boil order is in effect until further notice. You may experience air pockets and a chlorine odor coming from running water. Updates will follow when the boil order is lifted.”
At the Whistlin’ Donkey they got a call from the city over the noon hour telling them the water is turned back on.
“When we’re on a boil order or when we’re in no water, we cannot be open just because our restrooms aren’t going to be open,” said Stacey Campbell-Lyddon, the Whistlin’ Donkey General Manager. “We can’t sanitize, we can’t wash, but then when we go to a boil order, we do have to boil all of our water for dishes, we do it for food anyway.”
When the water is off they serve bottled water or soda from cans.
The water was also off for the whole town, on December 4, due to a break in an aging pipe.
Due to the water outage Wednesday, there was no school for 6th through 12th graders.
