BREMER COUNTY, Iowa — More than 20 sick cats were rescued from a northeast Iowa home on Wednesday and are now in need of new, safe homes.
According to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, 27 cats were discovered by the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office when deputies responded to a medical call at a rural Readlyn home. The sheriff’s office called the ARL to assist in removing the 27 cats from the home described as dilapidated.

All of the cats were covered in fleas and ear mites, and most of them were suffering from upper respiratory infections and eye inflammation, the ARL said. The cats are now in the care of the ARL and are receiving treatment to bring them back to health.
The ARL said local authorities are assisting the owners of the animals.
