DES MOINES, Iowa — Snow fell across central Iowa this morning and early afternoon, with a dusting to a half an inch or so of accumulation in most areas, creating slick spots on area roadways. Your weather timeline takes us into a busy Friday night and Saturday morning.

It’ll be another cold overnight, leading into a mostly dry Friday. By 7 p.m. Friday evening, light freezing rain will begin spreading north across the state. Ahead of this, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory that goes into effect late Friday afternoon.

Many people may be out Friday evening for holiday gatherings, and it’s important to be aware that road conditions will likely deteriorate as the night progresses.

It appears areas in northern and eastern Iowa will see more ice accumulation by early Saturday morning than central Iowa will.

We will likely still see slick conditions around central and northern Iowa Saturday morning. Rain looks to end Saturday evening. A separate system could bring a little rain to the state on Monday.
