Sentencing Tuesday for semi driver in vehicular homicide of metro tow truck driver

DES MOINES, Iowa – A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning for a Michigan man who was driving drunk when his semi hit and killed a metro tow truck driver in 2023.

Dmytro Prysich

Dmytro Prysich is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m. in a Polk County courtroom after he was found guilty of homicide by vehicle while intoxicated back in October. He was acquitted of leaving the scene of an accident causing death in the trial.

Prysich faces up to 25 years in prison on the conviction.

Prysich failed to change lanes and hit tow truck driver Joshua Villa, 45 of Adel, as Villa was loading a disabled vehicle onto his tow truck near the 86th Street exit in Urbandale on November 12, 2023. Villa was pronounced dead at the scene.

Clive Police arrested Prysich a short time later after failing to stop at the crash scene. Blood tests showed his alcohol level was .196.

Prysich’s attorney has already filed a motion for a new trial, claiming the blood test was flawed and should not have been admitted into evidence.
