Polk County activates Extreme Temperature Plan ahead of dangerous cold snap

POLK COUNTY, Iowa – In anticipation of wind chills in the single digits later this week, Polk County Emergency Management has activated its Extreme Temperature Plan.

The plan will be in effect through Friday. It means capacity limits at area homeless shelters are lifted. The plan also activates warming centers where people can get relief from the cold. You can check the location of centers and their hours of operation here.

DART will provide free rides to the shelters and warming centers.
