JOHNSTON, Iowa — In remembrance of the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Governor Reynolds declared December 16th as a day of remembrance.
Lasting from December 16th, 1944, to January 25th, 1945, the World War II battle was the last major German offensive on the Western Front and is remembered as one of the deadliest battles during the war.
The ceremony was held at the Iowa Gold Star Military Musuem where several presentations including stories of Iowans, a prayer written by the chaplain, and results of the battle where given.
After the presentations had finished people were able to tour the Living History Detachment WWII Exhibit and enjoy refreshments.
