GoFundMe set up for Des Moines house fire victims

DES MOINES, Iowa — An early Saturday morning fire in Des Moines left eight animals dead on the southside of the city.

Happening just after 2 a.m. in the 2800 block of Southwest 12th Street, Des Moines police told WHO 13 News at the scene that an elderly woman was pulled from the home. Her husband reportedly managed to escape on his own. Both were transported to the hospital; their conditions are still unknown.

A neighbor set up a GoFundMe page for the couple that lived at the home. According to the page, the couple is in need of temporary housing, food and clothing.

The Des Moines Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
