City of Des Moines warns of fake winter parking information

DES MOINES, Iowa — The City of Des Moines is warning about letters some residents may have received containing fake information on winter parking restrictions and enforcement.

The city provided a photo of the fake letter, which had been sent to residents in the East Porter Avenue area. The letter had the city’s logo on it and appeared to be from the city — but was not official.

According to the City of Des Moines, if any mail purporting to be from the City looks suspicious check the city’s website, DSM.city, for the correct department’s phone number and call directly to confirm the information. Don’t call the number provided in the letter.

Any mail from the City will also be certified mail and will have a return address.

There isn’t a seasonal parking ban in the City of Des Moines, but there are snow-relating parking restrictions that are put in place and enforced during Des Moines Public Works snow removal operations. You can find out more about them here.
