Des Moines, IOWA—- The first measurable snow of the season lead to several accidents in and around Des Moines this morning. The big snowflakes fell overnight. With the cold air in place, the snow added up with a band of one to two inches in spots. Ames reported around 1.5″ this morning. The airport in Des Moines measured 1″. The NWS in Johnston reported 1.4″ of snow.

The cold air sticks around for another day with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens. Please be careful if you are headed out on the roads. The roads are slick in spots.
