DES MOINES, Iowa — The Brenton Skating Plaza filled with families who celebrated Thanksgiving and other happy traditions.

The Brenton Skating Plaza, located in downtown Des Moines at 520 Robert D. Ray Drive, has reopened their doors for the winter season.

The Brenton Skating Plaza hours are:

• Monday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m.
• Friday from 5 to 11 p.m.
• Saturday from 12 to 11 p.m.
• Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The plaza has holiday hours on Thanksgiving from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. and on November 29 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Despite the chilly weather, the plaza filled with families, couples, and individuals all enjoying a night on the ice.

Jarryn Stephens and Hailee Schultz went out for a little after Thanksgiving dinner fun. They came out to celebrate four years together, a tradition they started last year.

“We came here last year for the first time ever, and it was kind of fun,” said Schultz. “It’s something to do, see how many times I can fall,” said Stephens.

Kieth, Kayla, and Grant Hubbard have been coming to the rink to skate for years and usually stay till they can’t stand the cold any longer.

“It’s somewhat of a family tradition, we come here most Thanksgivings or close to it, so it’s something that we do,” said Kieth. “We’ve been doing it ever since we were little, it’s amazing, a really nice ice rink with really amazing views,” said Kayla.

Sam, Bella, and Christian had their Thanksgiving plans cancelled but that wasn’t going to stop them from having a good time. They had Thanksgiving dinner at Cracker Barrel and then came to skate.

“I’ve brought Christian a couple years, and this is Bella’s first year coming out,” said Sam. “It’s a lot of fun up here.” “It was like really amazing, every time I fell I was just like “you got this”, get back up,” said Bella.
