JOHNSTON, IOWA — A person is in custody after officers responded to a report of someone armed with a gun near Johnston High School on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the city, officers responded to a field in the 6900 block of NW 100th Street – about 3/4 mile north of the high school – just before 1:00pm on a report of someone with a gun. The school was put on “lockout” – meaning all doors were locked and no one was allowed into or out of the building.

Officers located the individual and quickly took them into custody. That person’s name has not been released and no criminal charges have been announced.
“We appreciate our community members for their vigilance and for sharing information. If you see something, please say something,” the city said in its statement.
