AMES, Iowa — The Ames Police Department is investigating after a man was found dead in a parking lot in downtown Ames.

Around 8:26 a.m. the Ames Police Department responded to the 700 block of Burnett Avenue on reports of a man lying in an alley. Once on scene, police located a deceased 53-year-old man in a parking lot near the alley.

The man was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Authorities opened an investigation and have since conducted follow-up interviews, canvassed the area, and processed the scene.

Police say there does not appear to be any ongoing danger to the community.
