Man dies from injuries sustained in single-vehicle crash

DES MOINES, Iowa — A 21-year-old man has died from the injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle crash in late September.

At around 4:00 a.m. on September 28 the Des Moines Police Department and Des Moines Fire Department responded to a crash with injury in the 2200 block of Army Post Road.

When first responders arrived on scene they found an injured 21-year-old man trapped inside a vehicle. According to police, firefighters had to mechanically extricate the man from the vehicle. The driver was then transported in critical condition to MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

On Wednesday the driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Quentin Robert Billings, succumbed to his injuries. This is the 13th traffic-related fatality in Des Moines this year.

According to police, a preliminary investigation found that a 2010 Dodge Avenger was driving eastbound on Army Post Road when it left the traffic lane, slid along the raised median, and struck a utility pole.

The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit continues their technical investigation into the crash.
