1 fatality reported after car and train collide in southeast Iowa

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Iowa — One person is dead after a car collided with a train in southeastern Iowa early Monday morning.

The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened in the 2400 block of Spruce Avenue around 1:50 a.m. That’s about two miles west of Ainsworth.


Sentencing Monday for Megan Staude in newborn’s murder

The ISP crash report says a Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Spruce Avenue when it ran the stop sign at the railroad crossing and collided with a westbound train. The car came to rest in the west ditch.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead. Their name has not been released.

The Iowa State Patrol is continuing the investigation into the crash.
