MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — Multiple people were displaced in a house fire in Marshalltown Wednesday morning.
At around 3:40 a.m. the Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 400 block of Union Street. When firefighters arrived at the scene they found a fire in the finished attic of a 1.5 story house.
At the time of the fire six adults were found to be living inside. According to the fire department, the property owner said the house was supposed to be vacant. All six adults were able to safely escape. Friends and the American Red Cross are helping those displaced by the fire.
The fire department said the fire appears to have started in a closet on the upper floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
