CLARINDA, Iowa — A 19-year-old college student is dead following a single vehicle crash in Page County, just outside of Clarinda.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:41 a.m. on 210th Street, east of Willow Avenue.
Authorities say a pick-up truck was traveling eastbound on 210th Street when it came up over a hill and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The truck went off the left side of the road and into the ditch.
The vehicle then moved into the wooded area, striking multiple trees before vaulting and landing overturned. The truck came to rest in the wooded area facing west and then became engulfed in a fire, according to ISP.
The driver of the pick-up truck was 19-year-old Jase Wilmes from New Market, Iowa.
According to a Facebook post, Wilmes was a first-year student at Northwest Missouri State University and counseling services will be available for those who need them.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Clarinda Rescue and the Page County Sheriff’s Office.
