DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines came close to breaking a long-standing record low of -13 below set on February 18, 1903. The low in Des Moines dropped to -11 on this Tuesday morning. It felt as cold as -25 below with the added wind. The coldest wind chill reported in Iowa was -42 below. Northern Iowa measured the coldest wind chills in the state this morning.
