IOWA — Extreme cold settled in overnight and some communities had wind chills as low as -40° early this morning. The Extreme Cold Warning will last through noon today for most of western, central, and northern Iowa. This is a warning for -40° wind chills. A Cold Weather Advisory continues through noon in southern to southeast Iowa for wind chills to -30°.

Once the warning and advisory ends, wind chills will still remain dangerously cold. They won’t get quite as cold overnight, we’re looking at wind chills of -15° to -25° by Wednesday morning.

We will be near a record minimum high-temperature today and drop close to record lows the next two mornings.

Daytime highs will continue to rise through the remainder of the week and above average highs by Sunday.
