WEST DES MOINES — The West Des Moines Police Department is accepting donations for its Pack the Patrol Car event on Friday. From 7 am to 7pm, the public can drop off donations to the West Des Moines Police Department that will be given to the West Des Moines Human Services Personals Pantry.
The department is specifically asking for personal hygiene products to be donated like toothpaste, shampoo, or baby diapers. A full list can be found on the event website.
Sergeant Dan Wade, with the WDMPD Administrative Support Unit, said the event is a great way to connect with the community.
“That’s certainly our mission here at the West Des Moines Police Department is to unite with the community. And obviously, our function as law enforcement really puts us in contact with people in times of crisis or really high intensity scenarios in their life. This is a great opportunity for our people to engage the community in low-stress environments, non-enforcement capacities, and to still have a positive impact on our community,” Sgt Wade said.
The West Des Moines Police Department hopes to fill up multiple patrol cars worth of donations during Friday’s event.
