POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Des Moines firefighters are battling a structure fire in Polk County.
At around 3:20 p.m. the Des Moines Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in the 4500 block of Leland Avenue in unincorporated Avon, which is southeast of Des Moines and northwest of Carlisle.
According to firefighters at the scene, the owner turned on a 100 lbs. propane tank that had recently been charged and installed in a lean-to. The owner left for a few minutes and then returned to find a fire had started.
As of 4:55 p.m. firefighters are still working to put out the fire. Firefighters said a large amount of hay is making it difficult to put out.
Officials say no animals or people were hurt in the fire.
