DES MOINES, Iowa — The Annual Cyclone Country Kennel Club of Ames Conformation Show finished Sunday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

Roseann Johnson, the Show Chair of the Cyclone Country Kennel Club of Ames Conformation Show, said that more than 800 dogs competed in the show.

“We’ve got competitors from more than 150 different dog breeds here today. Some that have actually competed at Westminster. They’re here competing in Des Moines.” Johnson said.

Rebbeca Gimzo, a helper of a show dog owner at the dog show, said that the competition was a good way to dispel stigma around show dogs with the public.

“There’s a lot of stigma that show dogs, we just keep them in cages all the time and we don’t. They get the best food, the best care. My dog shampoo costs more than mine and they love it. And they do. They love coming out and they if the public comes and watches a dog show, you can see the dogs are having fun in the ring. They get toys, they get treats, they get to be with their people. If they were being neglected in any way, shape or form, the dogs would show it.” Gimzo said.

The Cyclone Country Kennel Club of Ames is now preparing for its 16th Annual Tracking Test, which will take place on March 23rd.
